Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease of the bones, whereby they become low density and become brittle making them prone to break more easily, often with little or no trauma. This means that simple things like getting out of a chair or falling from a standing height can result in a fracture.

There are no obvious symptoms of Osteoporosis until someone has a fracture or broken bone that may cause pain or disability. At HealthTexas we recommend that you discuss with your doctor whether you’re at risk for developing Osteoporosis and if you meet the criteria for a screening test.

A bone density or DEXA test is a measurement used to estimate bone strength. It’s part of an overall assessment of fracture risk your doctor or healthcare provider can perform. At HealthTexas we focus on your whole wellbeing, so that you may have a healthy life!
