Pain - Keeping Texans Healthy - HealthTexas

Pain is an uncomfortable feeling that tells you something may be wrong! It can be described in many ways, but most of the time we just want it gone. For the majority of patients first line treatment is over the counter medication such as acetaminophen or non steroidal anti-inflammatory's like Ibuprofen.

Although these medications are readily available, they are not without risk or possible side effect. Always speak with your HealthTexas physician before taking any of these medications. As they can effect your kidneys or cause an upset stomach.

There are many other medications that can be used for acute and chronic pain in addition to alternative treatment options such as physical therapy, massages and acupuncture. For more information regarding these see your HealthTexas PCP and get the help you need.
