SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (AUGUST 2024) — Dr. Ricardo Villanueva Alvarez was born and raised in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where he earned undergraduate education and attended medical school at Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi. He continued to LSU Health Shreveport for his residency in Family Medicine, where he earned recognition as Chief Resident.
As a young boy Villanueva Alvarez displayed a natural curiosity for science and a heart for helping others, a gift not overlooked by his grandmother. Her career advice to her grandson was simple: “You should be a doctor,” she counseled him.
Now, guiding patients toward wellness and witnessing their recovery brings him total satisfaction. His autonomy in providing this level of care is one of the main reasons he was attracted to HealthTexas.
As a young man straddling two cultures, his sports interests include Mexican League soccer (America) and American football (Colts fan). He’s up for watching boxing if one of the boxers is named CANELO.
Having joined HealthTexas the first week in August, Dr. Villanueva Alvarez is seeing patients at HealthTexas New Braunfels Clinic, 900 Loop 337, New Braunfels, TX (78130).
His move to Texas includes his family; he and his wife, Vivian, are proud parents of 2-month-old son Max. Parenting a newborn has forced curtailing an avid outdoor lifestyle for the CrossFit enthusiast. Dr. Villanueva Alvarez holds fond memories of visiting San Antonio and visiting SeaWorld, Riverwalk, and The Alamo, as a young man with his parents and, of course, his Abuelita.
