Medicare Annual Enrollment: What You Need to Know Before the Deadline

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is in full swing, and it’s an important time for Medicare beneficiaries to review and possibly adjust their coverage. As health needs change over time, it’s essential to ensure your Medicare plan still meets your needs. At HealthTexas, we’re here to help you make the most of this enrollment window and find the best possible coverage for the upcoming year.

Medicare Basics: Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals aged 65 and older, people with disabilities for 24 consecutive months, and those with End-Stage Renal Disease. HealthTexas has provided care to Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients for over 30 years.

Understanding the Four Parts of Medicare:

  • Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice, and some home health care.
  • Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers doctor visits, medical supplies, and preventive services.
  • Part C (Medicare Advantage): Combines Part A, Part B, and often Part D with additional benefits.
  • Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage): Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs and vaccines.

Your Medicare Coverage Options:

  • Original Medicare: Includes Part A and Part B, with the option to add Part D for prescription drug coverage. You pay for services as you use them.
  • Medicare Advantage: Bundles Parts A, B, C and D with extra benefits like vision, dental, and hearing. HealthTexas exclusively partners with UnitedHealthcare for these plans.
  • Medicare Supplement Plans: These help cover out-of-pocket costs like copayments and deductibles. HealthTexas accepts most of these plans.

Don’t Miss the December 7 Deadline! The Annual Enrollment Period ends on December 7, 2024. Now is the time to review your current plan, explore new options, and ensure you have the coverage that suits your needs.
