Nearly 4,500 People are Fed from 10K Prepared Meals Per Day HealthTexas Physicians & Staff Volunteer to Help with Deliveries

HealthTexas is partnering with Meals on Wheels San Antonio underwriting 50,000 meals to get delivered Monday thru Friday, March 7-11, 2022, to nearly 4,500 people who receive three prepped meals per day.  

This is the 50th anniversary of the charity’s innovative “March for Meals” campaign, which asks local community groups and businesses to underwrite the cost of the home meal delivery.

“We are grateful that HealthTexas has stepped up during our March for Meals campaign to sponsor a week of home meal deliveries that nourishes our over 4,500 clients,” says Meals on Wheels San Antonio CEO Vinsen Faris. “It is powerful when organizations like HealthTexas donate funds and volunteer in groups to help make these deliveries possible.”

“Meals on Wheels SA clients are some of the hardest population groups hit during the pandemic,” explains HealthTexas CEO Dr. Kristi Clark. “As medical professionals we felt strongly to do more and the agency’s March for Meals proved the perfect vehicle for all of our team members.”

ABOUT MEALS ON WHEELS SAN ANTONIO

Meals on Wheels San Antonio was established in 1977, in conjunction with Grace Place Alzheimer’s Activity Centers. Through public-private partnerships, Meals on Wheels San Antonio volunteers and staff visit more than 4,500 clients’ homes in Bexar, and surrounding counties, each weekday to deliver more than a meal. In 2021, 1,153,235 nutritious meals were delivered in our community. Through a variety of services, Meals on Wheels supports at-risk, isolated clients by providing them nourishment, independence and care that enables them to stay safe and comfortable in their own homes.
