Hispanic Heritage Month continues through October 15 and recognizes the independence anniversary for Latin American countries El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Then the independence anniversary dates of Mexico on 9/16 and Chile 9/18. It was initially observed as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and later expanded to 30 days by President Ronald Reagan. The month celebrates the rich history, heritage, and important contributions of American citizens who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and South and Central America.
